My Yard a Story by Susan Stanley
                                 My Yard

I woke up this morning thinking about grass.  Can you believe
that...grass.  Not men, not shopping, not a party but grass.  I hate
yard work.  Yard work makes me itch, sweat, and get real
grumpy.  So as you might guess my yard resembles a dirt pit
with trees.

I live in a very comfortable neighborhood with a mix of young
and old. My neighbors are of the older variety.  When men get
older, I don't think they wake up thinking about anything but
yards and grass.  I have 3 wonderful neighbors that love their
yards. Anytime of the day you can come by and find one of them
puttering in his yard or they are all sitting in each others garages
in a little circle.  Do you think they are talking about women....I am
convinced all they talk about is my yard.

These men even make a party of mowing their yards.  You
guessed it, they even mow their yards together.  It looks like
busy big ants all running over one yard with lawn mowers.
When they are finished mowing they sit in one garage, drink
beer, and plan their next great mow.

Sometimes their schmoozing in the garage ends in new plants
and bushes planted in my yard. Then I am greeted with big
smiles, and Suzie, how do you like your new palm.  We decided
you needed that palm to finish off this side of your house.  The
only reason I needed that palm is they sit in that darn garage and
let the beer help them plot their next foray into my yard.

Last week I opened the front door to find the group racking up
the leaves in my front yard.  They were all smiles and busy, busy,
busy.  Then I heard, look we got 32 bags of leaves!  Well, that
was great because I know that the leaves were blowing into their
yards.  My thinking on all the leaves piled in my yard was that I
was making tons of mulch that would nourish my dirt pit.   Do
you know what they said next? Suzie, now you need grass!  I
could have cried.

I saw an article last week that there is a new kind of carpet that
looks like grass.  I am currently looking into that option.  I
wonder what the boys will think of that.
